Abstract
The question of the implications of Database System standardization are studied in some detail.
The first section deals with the scope of standards at the user-system interfaces, as well as
the need for them at inter-system interfaces. The second section deals with the potential for
standardization: potential candidate subsystems, economics, and technology. The last section
deals with current efforts of various national and international groups in the provision of
"real" and de facto standards.
