Scottish Attractions

Thinking of including a holiday before or after VLDB'99? Scotland offers a wide variety of choice in activities. Think of Scotland and lochs and glens spring to mind. From the rolling hills of the Borders to the heather-clad north west highlands, Scotland's lochs and mountains provide some of the most splendid natural scenery found anywhere in the world.

In addition to this spectacular landscape, Scotland boasts an exciting heritage and the air of history, drama and romance of Bonnie Prince Charlie's days still lingers in the glens.

Outside Edinburgh, for the outdoor types there are mountains to be climbed, the most well known of which are the Munros, Munro bagging being a popular activity in Scotland, including Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain. Other attractions include exploring caves, or finding the Loch Ness monster. For indoor pursuits, visit one of the many museums or monuments.

Tartans and Castles

Do you wonder what the red pattern is along the left-hand side, or the what the castle is at the top of the page? The castle is Edinburgh Castle and is part of the logo for VLDB'99. The red strip is a tartan, which is synonymous with Scotland:
