Arrival by Plane
 

Berlin as the capital of Germany has three different airports. Tegel airport, Schönefeld airport and Tempelhof airport. While the first two are the most frequently used ones, Tempelhof is mainly used for local national flights and some international ones. Most likely you will arrive at Tegel Airport (especially when coming from overseas via Frankfurt) or at Schoenefeld Airport when arriving from Eastern European countries.

Unfortunately there are no non stop flights from the US to Berlin. You have to connect through Frankfurt, Munic, Paris, London, Amsterdam or Brussels.

 
All three airports are very well connected to the public transportation System of Berlin (bus and/or subway). Below you shall find more information how to get from each of the three airports to the city center and to Humboldt-University. You can use the taxi, but als a real alternative we highly recommend to use the S-Bahn (quick train) and the U-Bahn (subway). One ticket is ususally sufficient independent which alternative (and combination thereof) you use.
 
Each participant will receive a weekly ticket once you have registed for the conference.

Arrival by Train
 

Long-distance trains stop at different main stations. The train system in and around Berlin is presently under a complete reconstruction. In the year 2003 Berlin will have an up-to-date train infrastructure converging to a new main station, international high-speed connections and very good connections to Eastern Europe.

Berlin is easy to access by train both from Western and Eastern Europe. Please look at the train schedule if you decide to take the train to come to VLDB.
