Call for Workshops

Call for Workshops

VLDB 2014 invites submissions for workshop proposals on all topics covered by the conference.
A VLDB workshop is either a half-day or a full-day event, and takes place either on the day before or on the day after the core of the conference. VLDB 2014 workshops will be held either on September 1, 2014 (Monday) or on September 5, 2014 (Friday). All VLDB 2014 workshops will be "serviced," meaning that logistics such as registration, catering, room allocation, and audiovisual arrangements will be handled by the VLDB conference organizers. The workshop organizers are responsible for defining the technical program and workshop format.

Workshop proposals should be submitted via email to the workshop co-chairs at natassa@epfl.ch and kaushik@microsoft.com, by Friday January 17, 2014 Workshop organizers with special requirements (e.g., special workshop duration or venue, a compelling need for an early workshop proposal evaluation) should contact the workshop program co-chairs as soon as possible; such requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Workshop proposals must be at most five pages and should include the workshop title, contact information, chairs and organizers, as well as a technical description of the workshop with its goals, the workshop format, potential program committee members, and potential speakers or keynotes. Workshop proposals should also indicate the preferred workshop date and duration, as well as the proposed deadlines for submission and author notification.

If a proposed workshop has had earlier editions, the workshop proposal should provide, whenever possible, historical information about the workshop, such as venues, number of papers submitted and accepted for presentation, and number of attendees for the previous editions.

The organizers of accepted workshops are required to announce the workshop in time and call for papers, solicit submissions, conduct the reviewing process, and decide upon the final workshop program. Workshop programs must be published at least two weeks before the early registration deadline of the main conference. Publication of calls for papers and participation as well as eventual workshop reports in SIGMOD Record are encouraged.

Proposal evaluation criteria include relevance to VLDB, scientific quality, quality of proposed organization, perceived interest (e.g., previous submission and attendance counts), and overlap with other proposals. Acceptance decisions will be communicated by Monday, February 17, 2014.
