Abstract

It is today widely accepted that "Business Rules Independence" is requiredfor information systems to better and more rapidly adjust to changes in the business environment. This paper 1 attempts to articulate howlogic based database systems provide adequate technology for better "Business Rules Independence". These systems do so by going beyond "Data Independence" and by providing "Knowledge Independence". This paper benefits from the experience gained in developing and marketingthe VALIDITY deductive and object-oriented database system during the lastfew years. Current applications and specific data management techniques to be used are discussed.
